In the beginning, there was The Onion. The Onion begat The AV Club. The AV Club begat The Dissolve. The Dissolve commentariat begat The Solute. The Solute begat Media Magpies.
It’s a little more complicated than that. All of that involves stories, many of which we’re not getting into here. Some of which are not our stories to tell. But that’s where we come from. Some of us have known and admired one another’s writing for over a decade now [entire writing staff crumbles into dust]. Media Magpies is a group of writers who have chosen to create a website together to share their writing, their perspectives, and their interests.
Media Magpies is bringing together writers from around the world. Our primary focus is media available in the English-speaking world, but we are not limited to it. Any of our writers are free to share their interests regardless of what that interest is. We will talk more about movies and TV than most other things, but we do not intend to stick to just that, and there are already articles about a wide array of topics.
We will not bring you clickbait. Every article on Media Magpies was written by an author who chose to write about that topic and that perspective. We will not force unnecessary cookies on you, because we don’t want to share our cookies. We all know the frustration of having our information sold and breached and so forth. We’re all human here, except for Mortimer, and we get it.
What will Media Magpies beget? Only time will tell.
